The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kuwait announced the possibility of voluntary service in the army for women with a high school diploma and younger. In the official statement, it is communicated that those wishing to join military service can register on a special page of the Ministry of Defense, starting from today and for three days.
The duration of the course is three months and takes place in the morning hours without residing on the territory of the military base. Women with a high school diploma are granted the rank of sergeant and two supplements, while holders of a 10th grade diploma receive the rank of sergeant and one supplement, and those with a 9th grade diploma receive the rank of private, and those with diplomas from the 8th grade and younger receive the rank of soldier.
This is the first decision of its kind concerning the possibility of military service for women with a high school diploma and younger. It is noted that the decision to involve women in military service, made by the former minister of defense Sheikh Hamad Al-Jaber in October 2021, provoked a political reaction and has prompted civilian employees at the Ministry of Defense who wish to transition to military service.
