Kuwait Introduces New Measures to Control School Attendance

In a package of executive actions, the Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education, Hamad Al-Hamad, addressed the educational administrations in all regions, in addition to the General Administration of Religious Education and the Special Education Administration, to regulate the educational process and student attendance rates. These measures are implemented in accordance with directives from the Minister of Education and include enhancing the follow-up system, monitoring absences on a daily basis, and taking firm action against any attempts to incite students to be absent. The measures include conducting short tests and using various assessment tools, while strictly adhering to accurate and transparent recording of grades to encourage active student participation. They also include implementing the curriculum's time plan, activating engaging teaching methods, adhering to absence policies, accepting medical certificates from government hospitals, and submitting daily absence statistics to educational administrations by the end of each official working day. The instructions emphasize achieving fairness among students by preventing the re-administration of short tests to absent students, linking the evaluation process for school administrations to attendance and absence rates, and taking necessary actions according to applicable systems, which may lead to referral for investigation if any practices violating the regulations on inciting student absence are proven.
