The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced yesterday evening that a decision was made to ease the restrictions on parole for sentences of up to 20 years. The ministry stated that Premier of Kuwait and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yusuf has signed a decision to create a special commission to consider the cases of those sentenced to parole and to reduce the terms of sentences to 20 years instead of a positive sentence with forced labor.
The ministry called upon the heads of correctional institutions and agencies implementing the imposed measures to clarify the names of those sentenced on whom the conditions for easing the restrictions apply, within three months of the completion of their 20-year term, and to consider their cases as soon as possible.
This decision was made within the framework of the directives of the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Ahmad Jabir Al-Sabah. The Minister of Interior of Kuwait emphasized that this step is recorded in the country’s strategy for strengthening the reformative and rehabilitative approach in correctional institutions, ensuring a balance between the implementation of sentences and achieving criminal justice, as well as providing sentenced individuals with the opportunity to regain their lives and integrate into society after serving their sentence.
